Secure retention for gas cylinders for South East Water

South East Water came to Sandfield engineering because they required a system to securely fix chlorine gas cylinders to the wall of their water treatment sites. The method that they had been using involved a simple chain but there was clearly a Health and Safety issue as cylinders could fall over causing injuries to personnel.

South East Water supplies top quality drinking water to 2.1 million customers in Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.

Every day they supply 565 million litres of drinking water from their water treatment works along more than 14,000 kilometres of water mains to our customers’ taps. South East Waters’ supply area covers 5,657 square kilometres.

Sandfield Engineering designed a method to securely fix the cylinders to the wall. The cylinders were restrained by a heavy gauge band locked securely in position by over-centre locking toggle clamps. The clamps are spring-loaded to take up cylinder variation. The carriers are designed to hold 1 to 6 cylinders. Several hundred of these systems have been installed.

Secure bottle carriers have been developed.

A further development was the secure bottle clamp, these were designed to complement other anti-theft systems. These carriers are designed to prevent theft of cylinders.
